Easy Air Fryer Egg on Toast
This is the ultimate quick, hands-off, and perfectly cooked breakfast. The air fryer gives you a beautifully set egg with a runny yolk, crispy-edged toast, and melty cheese—all in one go with minimal cleanup.
Ingredients
· 1 large egg
· 1 slice of your favorite bread (sourdough, whole wheat, or brioche work great)
· Cooking spray, olive oil, or softened butter
· Salt & black pepper to taste
· Optional add-ons:
· 1 slice of cheese (cheddar, American, gouda)
· A sprinkle of everything bagel seasoning, red pepper flakes, or herbs
· 1 slice of ham or cooked bacon
· A handful of fresh spinach or sliced tomato
· Mashed avocado (add after cooking)
Instructions
Method 1: The “Cut-Out” Method (Best for a contained, runny yolk)
- Prepare: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3 minutes.
- Shape: Using a small glass or a round cookie cutter, cut a hole (about 2-2.5 inches wide) in the center of your bread slice. Save the bread round for “dipping.”
- Assemble:
· Lightly spray or brush both sides of the bread (and the round) with oil or butter.
· Place the bread slice directly in the air fryer basket.
· Crack the egg directly into the hole in the center of the bread.
· Season with salt and pepper.
· Optional: Place your slice of cheese on top of the bread (it will melt over the edges) or add ham/spinach under the bread slice. - Cook: Air fry for 5-8 minutes. Time depends on your desired yolk consistency and air fryer model.
· 5-6 minutes: Very runny yolk, just-set white.
· 7-8 minutes: Set but jammy yolk.
· Add the bread round to the basket halfway through to toast it.
Method 2: The “Nest” Method (Easiest, great for any toast topper)
- Prepare: Preheat air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Toast First: Lightly oil/butter one side of the bread and place it in the basket, oiled-side up. Air fry for 2-3 minutes until just starting to crisp.
- Add Egg: Carefully remove the basket. Use the back of a spoon to gently press a “nest” or indentation into the center of the toast. Crack the egg into this nest. Season.
- Finish Cooking: Return to the air fryer and cook for an additional 4-6 minutes until egg is done to your liking.
Pro-Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Eggs on Toast
· No Preheating? You can skip it, but add 1-2 minutes to the cook time.
· Prevent Sticking: A quick spritz of oil on the basket under the bread is insurance.
· Even Cooking: For very even cooking, pause halfway and use a spatula to loosen the toast from the basket if needed.
· Extra Crispy Toast: For super crispy toast, cook the bread alone for 2-3 minutes first, then add the egg.
· Multiple Servings: You can cook 2-4 slices at once, but don’t overcrowd. Leave space between each for air circulation.
· Get Creative: After cooking, top with hot sauce, salsa, fresh herbs, or a dollop of pesto.
Enjoy your perfectly effortless, delicious breakfast in under 10 minutes! 🍳✨
